Wonderful 18th century former guard house, this traditional cottage is located in an area full of smuggling history and boasts far reaching sea and countryside views.

This 18th-century cottage sits just 50 yards from the beach at Seatown and enjoys spectacular sea and countryside views. Inside, the property has been tastefully renovated to include neutral tones, painted antique furniture and carefully coordinated soft furnishings, while outside a sun-trap terrace has been finished with a chiminea for those long summer evenings. When you’re not dining alfresco in the garden, stroll along the fossil-rich shingle beach or tuck into a hearty meal at the highly acclaimed local pub which is just a stone's throw from the cottage. Alternatively you can pre-order meals from the pub to be delivered to the cottage (further details in the 'need to know').

Inside, a delightful lounge is at the heart of this elegant home. With a wood burner for chilly evenings, stylish and plump sofas, Smart TV and door opening onto the terrace, this is a wonderful room in which to spend quality time with family all year round. Next door, a bespoke kitchen displays Annie Sloan painted units, oak worktops and a Belfast sink, while upstairs via winding cottage-style stairs, the timeless bedrooms feature window seats with sea views, upcycled antique furniture and Victorian fireplaces. When the sun is shining, take to the rear terrace surrounded by pretty shrubs. There are two dedicated parking spaces.

Popular among fossil hunters, Seatown Beach is a lovely long stretch of shingle backed by the Ridge cliff. Stroll along the beach itself or set out along the coastal path above towards Thorncombe Beacon (1 mile) and Eype (2.5 miles), with breathtaking views along the way. Just 1 mile inland from Seatown lies the small hilly village of Chideock, home to a popular pub and Post Office, with a farm shop and tea room in neighbouring Morcombelake (2 miles).

Good location. Comfortable furnishings, beds etc. Windows in a poor state, jammed open..ok in summer maybe..not in winter! No hairdryer, out of date information in the folder. Needs a general overhaul.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Stunning location, wonderful local facilities and abundant activities to participate in locally too. The cottage was very comfortable indeed, well-equipped and the communication from the agents/owners was always clear, helpful and warm.

The fact that this is our sixth visit speaks volumes. Its location is superb and it's peaceful and quiet. The cottage is cosy. It needs some tender loving care in places to make it good value for money in comparison to other cottages.

A lovely location with the beach(pebbly) almost at the end of the drive and the pub next door. Also there is a pizza stall on the beach as well as a seafood stall. The cottage is pleasant and a bit quirky. The stairs are steep. The local Spar shop is well stocked but expensive.

Falling to sleep with the waves crashing on the beach was amazing and not to be forgotten. Guard House Cottage is in a wonderful spot, just a few seconds from the beach and the excellent Anchor Inn. Fantastic walks from the cottage too, to Eype and Golden Cap to Charmouth. We were very lucky with the weather, but the cottage would be very cozy on a stormy day. I think we will be back v soon!!
