Cycling in Dorset

Dorset is a wonderful county for cycling and rather better than the neighbouring counties of Devon and Cornwall which are very hilly:  Dorset’s landscape is more rolling traditional farmland down to the spectacular Jurassic Coast with plenty of country pubs to provide refreshment.

Obviously you may prefer to bring your bikes from home but if this is not possible there are various hire options for you to contact listed below.  It may also be possible for you to come on holiday by train with your bikes as the Waterloo to Weymouth lines serves the county well and has provision for cycles to be transported properly.

Both Purbeck and West Dorset have helpful publications with suggested cycle routes taking in delightful country lanes and noting places of historic or special interest.

As far as accommodation is concerned Dorset Coastal Cottages are ideally placed to enjoy your cycling.  Speak to a member of staff regarding storing your bicycles, as some of our self-catering properties are more suitable than others.

Dorset Cyclists Network

Dorset Cyclists' Network is the main body representing cyclists in the county and is campaigning for a “cycle-friendly Dorset.” Some DCN branches welcome members and visitors for cycle rides, usually at a gentle pace and lasting around  2 to 4 hours, and can give advice on where to ride and cycle shops.

Bicycle Hire

Woodlands Cycle Hire: Hire a bike from Woodlands and explore the fantastic scenery along the Purbeck cycleway. Please book in advance so we can have your bike available for the dates you require.

Adult: £6.00* per bicycle per day
Child under 12 years: £4.00* per bicycle per day
(All bicycle hire includes a helmet and a lock.)
*£25.00 deposit per bicycle is required which is refundable providing there is no damage upon return.
