Walking in Dorset

Of all of the counties of England Dorset is better served than most for walking. Whether you are looking for a challenging hike or a simple stroll the variety available is astonishing. The star attraction is obviously the Jurassic Coast, which encompasses the South West coast path. This famous walking route passes through Somerset, Devon and Cornwall before entering the county of Dorset at fossil rich Lyme Regis. It switchbacks its walking over nearly 100 miles of stunning coastline before it reaches the mouth of Poole Harbour.

But the coast is not the only attraction: Dorset was never really industrialised so farming and in particular large family estates, such as the Weld Estate at Lulworth, have maintained a traditional landscape with sweeping views from the ridge paths.

As far as accommodation is concerned all Dorset Coastal Cottages are ideally located for walking. Walkers can be strolling in the countyside from every one of our cottages within five minutes of leaving the door. No need to leave the dog behind either as around half of our self-catering cottages accept dogs.

Various web sites and guidebooks give a huge variety of information, often handily associated with a pub as the start/end point.
