A spring visit to Dorset

The early spring getaway

Daffodils

Spending time in Dorset during Spring is a great way to enjoy the fabulous county before the impending crowds arrive. Get up early and your footprints will be the only ones on the beach! The nights are getting lighter and there is a bit of warmth in the sun. Yes, a bit of pot-luck with the weather, however, even stormy conditions can be exhilarating in this part of the country.

Daffodils line the village lanes, buds in the hedgerows are starting to burst and the blossom is also starting to appear on the trees. The sea is unpredictable in every way except for the temperature which is certainly set to “COLD” right now.

Things to do…

Dogs on Beach

Dogs are still allowed on most beaches until the seasonal restrictions come into place at Easter. You can find our guide to dog friendly beaches here.

Weather-wise, this spring has been amazing so far. The storms at the very beginning of March were very severe and you could hardly stand up in the wind. Rain coming in horizontally made you just want to snuggle up in front of an open fire and enjoy a good book and maybe a cheeky glass of Dorset Beer or Wine, whichever your preference. We have since been honoured with some amazing sunny weather.

The markets and shops are still very much part of local life. In the west, Bridport hosts a historic street market every Wednesday and Saturday and in the east of the county Wareham market is every Saturday on the Quay. The independent butchers, bakers and cafes throughout the county do a great trade. Retreating to a local pub for a drink and a bite to eat is highly recommended.

Sunnyside, Bothenhampton

It’s always great to get feedback from our valued guests. Some guests who recently enjoyed a spring break at Sunnyside in Bothenhampton, Bridport said the following……

Magical, Special, Fantastic. Much welcomed hamper packed full. Fridge stocked with little extras too. Sunnyside is like, opening the wardrobe door, in the lion, witch, and wardrobe. This cottage has ton’s of extras, and is much loved by visitors and owner alike. From the doorstep, to the last inch, of the garden. Sunnyside is a delight. Hive Beach, the big, Co op. The local markets are not to be missed. Oh and try, a Beer in, Beer. So much good stuff to see and do. You’ll find loads of things around, that make this area, magical and unique for you. Thank you so much, for our stay xxx
