OUR PICK OF THE BEST NEW CAFE’S AND RESTAURANTS IN DORSET…
Bridport’s latest addition is a real gem, pretty much everything you could want from a cafe. The informal layout and the shabby chic decor create a quirky but tasteful setting, perfect for enjoying a morning coffee or a relaxing lunch. The outside courtyard is full of flowers and greenery and is even more spectacular in the sunshine. Along with a great menu, Soulshine also sells an excellent selection of magazines and graphic novels and a small range of handpicked food items. Soulshine is owned and run by local people, employs local people and serves locally sourced food. The friendly and attentive staff add to the wonderful, buzzy atmosphere. Add free wi-fi and a dog friendly policy and you’re on to a winner!
The coffees are outstanding, the smoothies and juices fresh and delicious. Wide variety of breads and a menu that has something for everyone. Resist the wonderful selection of cakes if you can!
The Flamin Grill @ East Thirty 1
This family run restaurant serves simple and delicious food using locally sourced ingredients and the results are superb. The restaurant itself is tucked away on the high street but the atmosphere inside (American theme with a modern twist) more than makes up for its unassuming exterior. The staff are fast, efficient and polite and once the food arrives it quickly becomes clear that this is more than just a standard burger restaurant.
Fresh, juicy and full of flavour, the burgers (served on brioche buns) are something else (we recommend the Mexican). Pizzas have recently been added to the menu and they are also superb.
The New Gurkha
Don’t be put off by the exterior! The New Gurkha has received rave reviews from locals since it opened this year. Not surprising given the wide range of curries to choose from, all cooked to order. If you appreciate authentic British Indian food of the highest quality with excellent service and a warm welcome then you will not be disappointed by The New Gurkha.
The chicken bhuna comes highly recommended as does the monk fish malabar. The poppadoms and garlic naan are outstanding as is the Gurkha special biryani.
