Just half a mile from Lulworth Cove, this characterful Grade II listed cottage dates back over 400 years. Formerly The Red Lion Inn, the property was visited by George III in 1802 and now makes a fantastic base for a family seeking to discover Hardy Country, Dorset countryside and the Jurassic Coast. This spacious and welcoming house includes a delightful annexe and is full of charm and original features including exposed beams, curved oak panelling and Purbeck flagstone floors.

The light and attractive lounge features plenty of seating and a wood burner set in a raised fireplace on a Purbeck stone hearth. There’s a cosy snug with curved walls, bench seats, a feature inglenook fireplace and an original meat-curing cupboard. You can share a family meal in the stylish dining room, with steps leading down into the fresh and equipped kitchen. The dining room leads through to the annexe which has a bright and appealing breakfast/utility room, two additional bedrooms with low ceilings and a bathroom. Outside, you can enjoy a meal or a morning coffee on the charming courtyard terrace. There are two pretty terraced lawns, reached via a few steps, with lovely hill views.

With Lulworth Cove and Stair Hole nearby (0.5 miles), you can explore the length of the Jurassic Coast, with highlights including Durdle Door, Man O’ War Beach (both 1.5 miles) and the Lulworth Estate’s Fossil Forest (0.5 miles). Further along are the beautiful beaches at Worbarrow (3 miles), Kimmeridge Bay (8.5 miles) and Ringstead Bay (11 miles). Inland, you can visit Lulworth Castle (2.5 miles), the Tank Museum (6.5 miles) and Monkey World (6 miles). Really lovely house - lots of space, well-equipped kitchen and comfortable, warm living areas. We were two couples, two kids and two singles and we all had plenty of room. The pub nearby is great (as long as you reserve a table for dinner) and Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door are a nice walk away. Perfect base for exploring the coastline.

A lovely cottage that suited our party of 8 including 2 young children. The annex was great for the young family as they had their own kitchen and play area and direct access to the small back garden. The kitchen is very well equipped and opens onto a pretty courtyard.
