Set in a fantastic spot for exploring the picturesque Purbecks, this spacious cottage seamlessly combines character features with contemporary convenience and is the ideal base for a family holiday

Keen walkers and lovers of the great outdoors will adore this charming three-bedroom cottage, which sleeps up to six guests, 1 mile from Wareham in Dorset. Set on the edge of Wareham Forest, it is well-positioned for exploring the picturesque Isle of Purbeck, picking up a stretch of the South West Coast Path and discovering beauty spots, including Lulworth Cove. Spend the day at the beach or messing about on the river at Wareham, where you can hire boats. Return to the attractive home to light the wood burner or enjoy the south-facing garden. Take two happy hounds with you if you choose.

Set within a plot of half an acre and dating back to the 1800s, this former farmworker's cottage is accessed via an unmade track. Up a step, enter to find a hall leading to a utility room, with a shower and WC. Return from days out to unwind in the cosy lounge before a roaring wood burner and watch TV - on summer days, open the French doors to let in the fresh Dorset breeze. Wander through to the kitchen/diner, with its sophisticated country kitchen style, to cook and eat together. And as night falls, climb the stairs to your three bedrooms and family bathroom. Spill out into your generous garden to light the BBQ on warm evenings and play games with the children on the lawn - keep an eye on them as the garden is not enclosed and lookout for a variety of wildlife.

Make your way to the Saxon walled town of Wareham for meals out and to potter in independent shops. Visit the museum here to find out more about the area's fascinating history. Head to Lulworth Cove 12 miles away to marvel at the coastal beauty, visit the dramatic Fossil Forest, and walk 1 mile to the striking limestone arch of Durdle Door.

We had a fabulous week at East Cottage. The location was excellent and lots nearby to do. The cottage had everything we needed. The 3 pre schoolers in our party loved the toys inside and outside the house and the garden. We would highly recommend it. Really quiet location and saw several deer and a buzzard whilst there.

Lovely secluded house that is great for dogs and kids a like, especially we would say under 5s with the amenities the owners provide. Great base to explore Dorset from, with lots of beach and forest walks in short and day trip distance from the house. All the facilities you could wish for to have a comfortable and relaxing stay.

Lovely setting and cottage very comfortable. Good size bedrooms. Downstairs shower too small and not suitable for tall people. Very rural with fantastic wildlife. Garden fencing almost non existent so not suitable for dogs that like to wander.

Loved the cottage..for wildlife enthusiasts it was perfect...the garden and surrounding fields and woods were full of butterflies, birds and animals. Great area too; Wareham is a hidden gem and none of the Dorset highlights is too far away. The cottage was decorated in a way that we all felt comfortable with...felt we could really relax and our litRead moretle dog was in his element. Hide

We spent a very pleasant week at East Cottage, although it is a little more remote than we expected. The cottage was very clean, comfortable and well equipped. Our young puppy needed to be kept on a lead as the garden is open to the adjacent woods and fields. We were fortunate to have good weather and so spent time making good use of the garden.

And relax! Fantastic clean, light and comfortable cottage in the most amazing location. No noise or light pollution and lots of nature - take your binoculars! Great location for visiting all of east Dorset. Had some wonderful walks in nearby Wareham and Puddletown Forests with the dogs and also explored the coast which is gorgeous. Lots of restauraRead morent choices in Wareham. The Italian Kitchen was outstanding and would also recommend the Salt Pig. Hopefully well be back soon. Hide
