The perfect couples’ bolthole, this stylish barn conversion is the ideal choice for a relaxing, eco-friendly break. With a wood burner, veranda and good road links there is something here for everyone.

Gaze out across the paddock from the covered terrace of this romantic, one-bedroom country retreat at Middlemarsh, 6 miles from Sherborne. Ideal for couples seeking to spend quality time together, the appealing barn-style holiday home offers bright living space with high vaulted ceilings, beautiful beams and a wood burner. Enjoy it as a base from which to explore the Dorset countryside and make trips to nearby towns and the Jurassic Coast.

Enter the single-storey, holiday home to find the airy, open-plan lounge/kitchen/dining room. This is where you can settle in front of the Smart TV and fire up the wood burner on chilly evenings. Make the most of the well-equipped kitchen area to cook up the tasty local produce you have sourced and set the table for candlelit dinners. The double bedroom is just as comfortable and there is a contemporary shower room. Keep the doors open on to your private terrace on warm days and relish relaxing at the table out here to absorb the views. Discover there is parking for two cars at the accommodation. A small stream runs under the veranda and there is a pond across the driveway in the owners’ garden which is bordered with post and rail fencing, please take care with children.

Pack a picnic and head off for long walks or cycle rides in your scenic surroundings. Catch sight of the famous chalk Cerne Abbas Giant high above the village. Enjoy passing several hours in Sherborne and see its castles and impressive abbey while you are there. Also visit Dorchester, 11 miles away, to wander around market stalls, boutiques and art galleries. Head approximately 20 miles to reach the sea. Weymouth, with its sandy beach, is a great place to swim or head along the coast to the picturesque coves and rocky outcrops this area is so famous for.

Fabulous cottage, clean and very comfortable. Sherborne is a lovely town to visit. We also went to Weymouth, Lulwoth Cove, Dorchester and the Isle of Portland. All easy to travel to from this base. The cottage was a lovely retreat to come home to each day and we loved looking out for the deer in the paddock every morning and evening!
