This thatched cobb cottage is full of quintessential English charm, with its thatched roof and myriad original features. Curl up in front of the cosy wood burner or unwind in the immaculate cottage garden. Just along the road is the local village pub, where you can enjoy a pint or meal at the end of a busy day. The surrounding countryside is a haven for walkers. You’ll also be within easy reach of the pretty market town of Blandford Forum (4 miles) and the cathedral city of Salisbury (20.5 miles).

Follow the gravel path to the quaint cottage. At the heart of the home is a warm and inviting lounge/diner. Here, an inglenook fireplace houses a wood burner and the original bread ovens. Elegant beams adorn the ceiling and there’s a round dining table where you can enjoy mealtimes together. From here, steps lead to the cosy snug. The country kitchen has everything you need, including a fabulous Rayburn, to create tasty dishes. Due to the age of the property, you’ll find characterful low beams and doorways, as well as split levels and cottage-style stairs leading to the first floor. Outside, discover a charming cottage garden laid to lawn and surrounded by mature hedging. Dine on the patio or relax with a glass of wine on the sun loungers.

The property is located within the Cranborne Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This distinctive landscape has a network of walking and cycling trails running across its chalk grasslands and escarpments. Spend an afternoon pottering around the Georgian market town of Blandford Forum. Stroll along the river, take a brewery tour and pick up some tasty local treats for dinner. For a day at the seaside, head south to Bournemouth (20.5 miles), where you’ll find 7 miles of sandy beaches.

We visited Drongstyle cottage with relatives from Western Australia, they were blown away as were we. The cottage is fantastic as is the garden. It was also very well equipped and very importantly, peaceful. The Langton Arms pub is a few minutes walk away, reservations advised. Beware of the portion sizes they are generous! This is an outstanding cottage. The levels of comfort and attention to detail are much higher than you would normally associate with a holiday rental cottage and it is a real home from home. Set in a quintessentially English village, with beautiful countryside all around, there was nothing about it that we would want to change.

Drongstyle Cottage is probably one of the best cottages we have stayed in in terms of furnishings, equipment and location.
