Stroll less than half a mile downhill and you’ll be at the seafront; take a walk on the historic pier for a lovely view of the bay or enjoy a day on the gently sloping sands where children can paddle and play in safety. Take a journey back in time aboard the Swanage Railway, which operates a full-size steam and diesel passenger trains from the coast to Corfe Castle (5.5 miles), or visit Lulworth Cove (17 miles), world-famous for its panoramic views, unique geology and crystal-clear waters. To the other side of Swanage, Studland Bay (3.5 miles) is a much-loved beauty spot with, at its southern end, one of the most famous landmarks on the South Coast: the stack of chalk known as Old Harry Rocks. Closer to home, Durlston Country Park is a 320-acre National Nature Reserve with dramatic sea cliffs, walking trails and a Victorian castle.
