This enchanting home for families and groups of friends is in the picture-postcard village of Cerne Abbas, within the Dorset AONB. The area is a paradise for walkers, with many routes branching away from the village, and you’ll also be within 20 miles of the dramatic Jurassic Coast. After a day of exploring, enjoy memorable group mealtimes in the characterful kitchen/diner, or soak up the sunshine in the pretty cottage garden.
This 16th-century cottage oozes charm and character, with period features such as exposed beams and stonework, oak shutters, and wood panelling. At the heart of the home is a cosy lounge, with a choice of seating areas and a roaring wood burner set in an inglenook fireplace. From here, amble through to the magnificent, farmhouse-style kitchen/diner, where you can whip up delicious feasts for the group and gather around the vast dining table for sociable meal times. In summer, throw open the doors to the enclosed courtyard, and let the fresh Dorset air pour in. Cottage-style stairs lead to the first-floor landing, which is home to a peaceful snug area with a TV. Here, you’ll find three charming bedrooms that are served by the well-appointed shower room on the ground floor, and a family bathroom on the first floor – a king-size bedroom and two doubles. Outside, a tranquil haven awaits in the enclosed courtyard garden, which has a patio area and a fantastic pizza oven for al fresco dining, plus a beautiful collection of mature plants and flowers.
The quaint village of Cerne Abbas is renowned for the Cerne Giant (0.5 miles) – an ancient chalk figure carved into the hillside above the village. There are also fabulous walks in and around the village, encompassing the fascinating ruins of the 16th-century abbey. For shopping and eating out, visit the bustling market towns of Dorchester (8 miles) and Bridport (17 miles), and for a day at the seaside, head to West Bay, and Eype Beach (both within 20 miles).
