This enchanting home for families and groups of friends is in the picture-postcard village of Cerne Abbas, within the Dorset AONB. The area is a paradise for walkers, with many routes branching away from the village, and you’ll also be within 20 miles of the dramatic Jurassic Coast. After a day of exploring, enjoy memorable group mealtimes in the characterful kitchen/diner, or soak up the sunshine in the pretty cottage garden.

This 16th-century cottage oozes charm and character, with period features such as exposed beams and stonework, oak shutters, and wood panelling. At the heart of the home is a cosy lounge, with a choice of seating areas and a roaring wood burner set in an inglenook fireplace. From here, amble through to the magnificent, farmhouse-style kitchen/diner, where you can whip up delicious feasts for the group and gather around the vast dining table for sociable meal times. In summer, throw open the doors to the enclosed courtyard, and let the fresh Dorset air pour in. Cottage-style stairs lead to the first-floor landing, which is home to a peaceful snug area with a TV. Here, you’ll find three charming bedrooms that are served by the well-appointed shower room on the ground floor, and a family bathroom on the first floor – a king-size bedroom and two doubles. Outside, a tranquil haven awaits in the enclosed courtyard garden, which has a patio area and a fantastic pizza oven for al fresco dining, plus a beautiful collection of mature plants and flowers.

The quaint village of Cerne Abbas is renowned for the Cerne Giant (0.5 miles) – an ancient chalk figure carved into the hillside above the village. There are also fabulous walks in and around the village, encompassing the fascinating ruins of the 16th-century abbey. For shopping and eating out, visit the bustling market towns of Dorchester (8 miles) and Bridport (17 miles), and for a day at the seaside, head to West Bay, and Eype Beach (both within 20 miles).

  • 3 bedrooms – 1 king-size, 2 doubles. Please request at booking if you would like 1 double converted into a twin
  • 2 bathrooms – 1 family bathroom with full bathroom suite and WC; 1 shower room with wet room shower space and WC
  • Electric AGA, additional induction hob and electric cooker, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine and fridge/freezer
  • Welcome pack

  • HD TV, Sonos sound system, radio and CD player
  • Please bring your own beach towels

The cottage was full of excess furniture and trinkets/photos on surfaces. In the kitchen there was no cupboard or shelf to store food as all the unlocked cupboards were totally full. The extractor fan in the shower did not work and the drain needed clearing (needed a screwdriver to lift the cover which we hadnt got) so the floor flooded. There was Read moreno airer or line to dry clothes and the washer dryer was really poor at drying. The high chair and cot provided for the baby were excellent. The stairs are lovely to look at but a challenge to climb as the tread heights not only varied but sloped. We will go back to Cerne Abbas as the village is lovely but we will book a different cottage. Hide

No problems at all with booking with you and the reminder emails received leading up to the holiday. The cottage itself was ok - the beds were comfortable and the kitchen was very well equipped. A few things that we did find disappointing was a constant damp smell in the lounge area, and the sofas felt a bit damp, which meant we spent most of our tRead moreime in the kitchen. The garden was a lovely sun trap but could do with some more comfortable garden chairs or some better cushions for the chairs (there were not enough so we had to use a sun lounger cushion on a chair which didnt fit). The house is also very cluttered with too much furniture and ornaments but I appreciate that is down to personal taste. Hide
