As night falls, climb one step up to your king-size bedroom, which has an en-suite bathroom, with a free-standing bath. Pack a picnic and your beach gear and amble down to the beach to swim, soak up the sunshine and search for fossils. Charmouth Beach is said to be one of the best places in the UK for finding fossils; indeed, some of those found here can be seen in the Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre. Visit Lyme Regis to join a fossil-hunting tour there or to take a boat trip out along the Jurassic coastline. Afterwards, wander the charming streets, browsing in shops and choosing a cafe to pause in for afternoon tea. Follow the South West Coast Path from Charmouth to West Bay for 7 miles, which includes going up to the National Trust’s Golden Cap cliff.
