Lovely property set in a peaceful, rural spot, ideal for countryside and beach lovers. This is the perfect getaway, with plenty to see and do close by.

A rural retreat for romantic couples or friends, this quaint bolthole is perfect for those who want to explore the fantastic Jurassic Coast. Spend sandy days enjoying Lulworth Cove (10.5 miles) and Osmington Mills (5.5 miles) before cosying up in this welcoming, former farm building. Fire up the BBQ for sundowner evenings and let you pup run free in the garden.

Stroll over the stepping stones on the lawn to step inside this cosy, single-storey home. Find yourself in the open-plan living space where the lounge, kitchen and diner fit together to create a welcoming heart of the home, perfect for spending time in both before, and after adventures. Exposed stonework and beams add tons of rustic, country-cottage charm and the pretty decor complements these features beautifully. Sit a while in front of the TV or pluck a book from the shelf and lose yourself in a tale with your feet up. When it’s time to cook up a delicious feast, venture to the kitchen where there is all you need to rustle up picnics and meals, including a fridge with ice compartment for cooling your evening drinks. For a sizzling feast, light the BBQ and enjoy tasty treats and tit bits. Pretty and fresh, the king-size bed is a welcome sight after long days exploring. Start your day with a refreshing shower or a soak in the tub before heading outside for an al fresco coffee. There is off-road parking for two cars.

Visit the iconic, horseshoe bay at Lulworth Cove (10.5 miles) where you can spend beach days basking on the sand and swimming in the glittering ocean. From here, a 1.5-mile walk across the clifftops will take you the marvellous arch at Durdle Door. Further on from Lulworth Cove, 17.5 miles from home, the majestic ruins of Corfe Castle, owned by the National Trust are well-worth a visit. From Corfe Castle you can walk the 9-mile Purbeck Ridge Trail towards the vibrant seaside town of Swanage (23 miles), past Old Harry Rocks. Treat yourselves to some retail therapy and a night off from the kitchen at Dorchester (5.5 miles).

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

Very clean and quiet small cottage close to Dorchester. Be aware that Apple equipment does not connect to WiFi but if that's not an issue it's a lovely base to explore this part of Dorset.

Lovely compact cottage with all necessary equipment provided, but as other people have said a car is a must. If a couple want a peaceful place to stay this is the one.

Swallow Cottage is beautifully presented and fitted out with everything one could need for an enjoyable holiday. Little gestures, like the provision of ecologically sound dish washing equipment, fresh flowers, milk, tea, coffee etc., were much appreciated. The property is situated well away from the village and, as others have said, transport (unleRead moress you're a really hardcore walker!) is essential. Seeing a hare bounding across the lawn on the morning after our arrival was a bonus too. Hide

Small but very well designed and thoughtfully equipped, with excellent use of the space available. The location was quiet and secure although a bit more remote than I had realised when booking. It was necessary to use the car whenever going anywhere.

Although it's just three hours from London and the South East, Dorset feels like a world away from the hubbub of the city. This gem of a county offers the very best of rural England: magnificent coastal scenery, vast sandy beaches, rolling hills, charming villages, country pubs, stately homes and medieval castles.

Take time to explore the dramatic and diverse coastline. Stretching 95 miles from East Devon to Poole, the Jurassic Coast has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and is the only natural phenomenon in England to achieve this status. Here, visitors can uncover Earth's fascinating history whilst enjoying unspoilt views over superb beaches, many of which welcome canine companions too. From the iconic rural rock arch at Durdle Door to the endless sandy expanses of Studland, Dorset has it all.

Why not head to Lyme Regis, classified as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty? Like much of West Dorset, it has an old-world ambience and offers excellent fossil hunting opportunities. Or head east to discover the beauty of Lulworth and the vibrant seaside resort of Swanage.

Steeped in history and with a certain quintessential charm, Dorset's glorious countryside is peppered with small towns and villages which are well worth a visit. Many are graced with fine buildings, immortalised in the books of Thomas Hardy, a Dorset-born novelist and poet. For more energetic visitors, footpaths and cycleways reveal the county's hidden secrets with the coast always close at hand for those who love the water.
