This beautiful Dorset holiday home typifies the look of a beach side property and fully embraces the panoramic views of the surrounding sea, harbour and hills.

A summer paradise and winter haven, this family retreat is the place to be. Located in West Bay, a popular beach is 150 yards away and there are shops and eateries within 0.5 miles. Welcoming eight people and up to two dogs, gather your loved ones and make the most of this property’s excellent views, location and gorgeous interiors.

Adopting neutral tones and tasteful decor, this spacious home oozes tranquillity. Whether you are relaxing in the lounge with the TV on, curled up in the sun room (with wood burner, sea glimpses and balcony) with a magazine or resting on the deck outside, there is somewhere for everyone. The icing on the cake is the kitchen and dining room. In an open-plan design, the kitchen and diner create a modern, comfortable space and boast huge bi-fold doors that open out onto the deck. Affording sea glimpses and allowing sunshine and fresh air to stream in, it transforms the room into something extraordinary. As well as the sumptuous living spaces, the ground floor is also home to two double-aspect bedrooms (a double and a twin) and a bathroom with walk-in shower. For complete self-sufficiency, there is also a utility with drier. Up the winding, narrow stairs, a bathroom with bath and shower overhead and two more bedrooms can be found. Both with sea views these bedrooms have reduced head height in the eaves and are configured as a double with en-suite with claw foot bath and separate shower, and a twin. Offering the choice of a front and rear garden, you can explore the network of paths and steps to enjoy the lawns, terrace, BBQ and views.

With everything you could need, West Bay has plenty of fun and food to offer. For shopping, there is neighbouring Bridport with its independent High Street or drive 18 miles to Weymouth.

We felt very comfortable in this attractive and extremely well-equipped house. We were surprised at one or two reviews from a previous year which expressed some dissatisfaction with the standards of cleanliness, as we found everything to be sparklingly clean. The house is well-positioned, being high enough up the hill for the main upstairs bedroom Read moreto offer views across the settlement of West Bay to the countryside beyond, as well as out to sea, but it is also a very short walk downhill to the beach. We visited in wintry weather but the garden and terrace would certainly be very inviting at warmer times of the year. The wood-burning stove makes the conservatory very cosy. Hide

The smell of damp was evident on first entering the property. Downstairs bathroom and twin room were very stinky. Cleaning was not spotless ie. hairs, not cleaning behind things, down side if cooker, window sills etc. Overall a great property in a good location.

Although it's just three hours from London and the South East, Dorset feels like a world away from the hubbub of the city. This gem of a county offers the very best of rural England: magnificent coastal scenery, vast sandy beaches, rolling hills, charming villages, country pubs, stately homes and medieval castles.

Take time to explore the dramatic and diverse coastline. Stretching 95 miles from East Devon to Poole, the Jurassic Coast has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and is the only natural phenomenon in England to achieve this status. Here, visitors can uncover Earth's fascinating history whilst enjoying unspoilt views over superb beaches, many of which welcome canine companions too. From the iconic rural rock arch at Durdle Door to the endless sandy expanses of Studland, Dorset has it all.

Why not head to Lyme Regis, classified as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty? Like much of West Dorset, it has an old-world ambience and offers excellent fossil hunting opportunities. Or head east to discover the beauty of Lulworth and the vibrant seaside resort of Swanage.

Steeped in history and with a certain quintessential charm, Dorset's glorious countryside is peppered with small towns and villages which are well worth a visit. Many are graced with fine buildings, immortalised in the books of Thomas Hardy, a Dorset-born novelist and poet. For more energetic visitors, footpaths and cycleways reveal the county's hidden secrets with the coast always close at hand for those who love the water.
