Light the wood burner on chilly evenings and bask in the sunshine on warm days. Up to six guests are welcome at this three-bedroom, stone cottage in tranquil Acton, on the Isle of Purbeck. Take two dogs with you and enjoy rural hikes from your own front door; follow a path for 1 mile to the spectacular Jurassic Coast.

Open the front door to this inviting 19th-century cottage, with its flagstone floors and exposed stonework, and step into the welcoming lounge. Stoke up the wood burner and settle down to watch TV. Find a washing machine, tumble dryer and freezer in the utility room. Follow steep, cottage-style stairs up to two first-floor, bedrooms, one with a double bed and the other with a king-size bed and en-suite shower room, with WC. There is also a family bathroom, with a shower over the bath and WC. Climb another cottage-style staircase to the attic, ideal for children, with its twin beds and low ceilings. Spill out into the split-level garden to light the BBQ. Dine out here and play games with the children on the lawn. Find a courtyard garden to the front of the house and a grassed parking area nearby.

Drive 3 miles into Swanage for a lively seaside experience. Spend hours on the sandy beach, swim in the sea and see the Victorian pier. Head 5 miles to Studland Bay, with its beautiful beaches and areas of unspoiled dunes. The property is very unusual & has great character, its a beautiful place. The surrounding area is fascinating & we went on voyages of discovery every day. The Purbeck stone & the dry stone walls everywhere make it special. Wouldn't recommend for anyone who isnt able bodied or tiny children as very steep staircase & lots of steps & slabs outside. The cottage is near perfect! Very comfortable, warm and cosy. Everything was provided that we could possibly require. The place was brilliant and the location fab, we will more than happily book again and are looking forward to seeing how the garden is re-designed. Great location for walking and seeing the stunning Dorset coast. Two fires keep everything toasty and warm!

Fabulous cottage and location. Really cosy, so much so, even the kids wanted to eat in rather than go out to a restaurant.

This cottage is the perfect getaway! It's in the most peaceful area. Off road, with no passing traffic, it was bliss. The coastal path walks, directly from the cottage door made it even better! With Swanage in view from the cottage, and only a 5 minute drive away meant we could go whenever we wanted, then return back to the tranquility of Marblers.Read more The cottage was spotlessly clean. The beds and bedding so comfortable and the water lovely and hot. We will definitely come back. Hide

We had a fantastic week at Marblers. The cottage is full of character and charm - its large kitchen and cozy living area created a lovely 'farmhouse' atmosphere. The beds were very comfortable. A very pleasant cottage. Wonderful quiet location near to some fantastic walks. Accommodation all very good (beds very comfortable). Not an issue for us but the stairs are quite steep and a little narrow. Thoroughly recommended.

Although it's just three hours from London and the South East, Dorset feels like a world away from the hubbub of the city. This gem of a county offers the very best of rural England: magnificent coastal scenery, vast sandy beaches, rolling hills, charming villages, country pubs, stately homes and medieval castles.

Take time to explore the dramatic and diverse coastline. Stretching 95 miles from East Devon to Poole, the Jurassic Coast has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and is the only natural phenomenon in England to achieve this status. Here, visitors can uncover Earth's fascinating history whilst enjoying unspoilt views over superb beaches, many of which welcome canine companions too. From the iconic rural rock arch at Durdle Door to the endless sandy expanses of Studland, Dorset has it all.

Why not head to Lyme Regis, classified as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty? Like much of West Dorset, it has an old-world ambience and offers excellent fossil hunting opportunities. Or head east to discover the beauty of Lulworth and the vibrant seaside resort of Swanage.

Steeped in history and with a certain quintessential charm, Dorset's glorious countryside is peppered with small towns and villages which are well worth a visit. Many are graced with fine buildings, immortalised in the books of Thomas Hardy, a Dorset-born novelist and poet. For more energetic visitors, footpaths and cycleways reveal the county's hidden secrets with the coast always close at hand for those who love the water.
