  • Beautifully converted barn set in a countryside location
  • A perfect base to explore the counties of Devon, Dorset and Somerset
  • Enjoy stunning rural or coastal walks
Property code: 83916

The perfect retreat for small families in a wonderful barn conversion, on the border of three counties.

Situated amongst the unspoilt countryside that surrounds Axminster, this charming former barn sleeps four and is an excellent base for exploring. Investigate the local area that’s best known for River Cottage and carpets, or follow the nearby A35 and discover Dorset, Devon and Somerset with ease. Lyme Regis, 4.5 miles away, is a delight for a day trip and a wander through the cobbled streets, and the avid fossil hunters amongst you will adore the popular museum.

Wooden-clad on the outside and deceptively spacious inside, your abode is homely and welcoming with simple yet effective decor, high ceilings and iron frames. Transform local ingredients into delicious meals in the handy kitchen area and dine at the table, retiring to the cosy sofas for family films or perhaps a well-deserved glass of wine. Set across a single level, you’ll find two bedrooms including a twin bedroom with 3ft twin beds and a king-size bedroom. Completing the property is a shower room, and outside you’ll have your own patio area. Allocated parking for one car is available.

Whether you are a family enjoying a traditional coastal break or a couple embracing the solitude of the countryside, Axminster is an excellent vantage point for exploring. Charmouth, Bridport and Abbotsbury are within 20 miles, and, further inland, the market towns of Chard, Beaminster and Honiton are all within 12 miles too. Navigate the Blackdown Hills, appreciate the East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and take your pick of tempting country pubs for a delicious lunch.

Lovely, comfortable and well equipped accommodation. Location is great for accessing the surrounding area, or venturing further afield. However, outside space is limited and walking anywhere from the accommodation is not recommended as the lane is very narrow with no pavement.

I would recommend the Stables to friends and family. The standard is first class. Very comfortable beds and well fitted out. The location is great, handy for all the sightseeing we did. Great to retire from the hustle and bustle of the coast, to enjoy a peaceful glass of wine listening to bird song . We recommend a visit to Riverside Cottage KitcheRead moren for their Curry Night. Understand we were the first to stay in one of 3 converted barns, central location to drive to surrounding villages/beaches. Family run business, very friendly, we enjoyed fresh eggs from their chickens across the way. Dogs are welcome. My son's favourite place (aged 8yrs) to visit was the Waffle House, Axminster community space, great coffee for uRead mores and fab choice of waffles. Definitely recommend a stay and explore. Hide

Although it's just three hours from London and the South East, Dorset feels like a world away from the hubbub of the city. This gem of a county offers the very best of rural England: magnificent coastal scenery, vast sandy beaches, rolling hills, charming villages, country pubs, stately homes and medieval castles.

Take time to explore the dramatic and diverse coastline. Stretching 95 miles from East Devon to Poole, the Jurassic Coast has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and is the only natural phenomenon in England to achieve this status. Here, visitors can uncover Earth's fascinating history whilst enjoying unspoilt views over superb beaches, many of which welcome canine companions too. From the iconic rural rock arch at Durdle Door to the endless sandy expanses of Studland, Dorset has it all.

Why not head to Lyme Regis, classified as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty? Like much of West Dorset, it has an old-world ambience and offers excellent fossil hunting opportunities. Or head east to discover the beauty of Lulworth and the vibrant seaside resort of Swanage.

Steeped in history and with a certain quintessential charm, Dorset's glorious countryside is peppered with small towns and villages which are well worth a visit. Many are graced with fine buildings, immortalised in the books of Thomas Hardy, a Dorset-born novelist and poet. For more energetic visitors, footpaths and cycleways reveal the county's hidden secrets with the coast always close at hand for those who love the water.
