Set in a peaceful spot with easy access to pretty Sherborne and Shaftesbury, this charming studio is an ideal bolthole for two and boasts a private garden with barbeque and countryside views.

The Blackmore Vale is a great touring base, with West Stour sitting midway between the picturesque towns of Shaftesbury and Sherborne. Sherborne (9 miles) is home to honey-coloured streets, two castles and a striking Abbey, while Shaftesbury (7.5 miles) offers stunning views from its hilltop position and the much-photographed Gold Hill. Both towns have a good selection of pubs, shops and cafes. Many walking and cycling routes weave through the surrounding rolling countryside, or if you want to head further afield and visit one of the wide range of attractions within 30 miles, try Stourhead (11 miles), Longleat (20 miles), Haynes Motor Museum (14 miles), the county town of Dorchester (24 miles) and the Isle of Purbeck (30 miles).

A gate gives access to this charming single-storey property, which has been renovated in 2022. Once inside, you are met with a cosy studio-style space. There is a contemporary kitchen area to the rear, separated by a clever dividing wall with open shelving. The kitchen is equipped with an electric oven and a 2-ring hob, plus a fridge with an ice compartment, ideal for preparing light meals. There is space to dine at the table for two just opposite and a compact sofa in view of the Smart TV. A double bed has views over the courtyard and fields beyond and is centrally set within the space. Just off this room is a stylish shower room with a step up to the shower cubicle and a WC. Patio doors lead to a fantastic, covered terrace and seating area at the front of the property, which has lovely distant views of the surrounding countryside.

To the side of the property is a second inviting gravelled terrace with a second table and chairs, plus a charcoal BBQ ideal for al fresco dining. To the side of the property is an off-road parking space for one car.

Clean, comfortable, small (obviously for a studio) - just manageable for hubby, myself and a big dog! Cake and wine were very welcome.

The Studio was an enjoyable stay for the 2 of us plus our beagle. Very well equipped and cosy and clean. Beautiful to arrive to cake and biscuits and milk. The wine was good also! Our week away was enjoyable. Central for exploring. Nice to have the enclosed garden for the dog. Good option to bbq!

Although it's just three hours from London and the South East, Dorset feels like a world away from the hubbub of the city. This gem of a county offers the very best of rural England: magnificent coastal scenery, vast sandy beaches, rolling hills, charming villages, country pubs, stately homes and medieval castles.

Take time to explore the dramatic and diverse coastline. Stretching 95 miles from East Devon to Poole, the Jurassic Coast has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and is the only natural phenomenon in England to achieve this status. Here, visitors can uncover Earth's fascinating history whilst enjoying unspoilt views over superb beaches, many of which welcome canine companions too. From the iconic rural rock arch at Durdle Door to the endless sandy expanses of Studland, Dorset has it all.

Why not head to Lyme Regis, classified as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty? Like much of West Dorset, it has an old-world ambience and offers excellent fossil hunting opportunities. Or head east to discover the beauty of Lulworth and the vibrant seaside resort of Swanage.

Steeped in history and with a certain quintessential charm, Dorset's glorious countryside is peppered with small towns and villages which are well worth a visit. Many are graced with fine buildings, immortalised in the books of Thomas Hardy, a Dorset-born novelist and poet. For more energetic visitors, footpaths and cycleways reveal the county's hidden secrets with the coast always close at hand for those who love the water.
