This quaint 18th-century cottage in the popular village of Charmouth is the ideal coastal retreat for families and friends looking to explore the stunning county of Dorset and its World Heritage Coast.

Set in an elevated position, this cosy 18th-century cottage is a wonderful coastal retreat with sea views. Inside, the rooms are homely, bright and spacious and outside there is a south-facing sunny garden for al fresco meals and drinks. Charmouth’s selection of pubs, shops and takeaways are just a short walk away, while its stunning sandy beach is only half a mile further. With the fossil-rich Lyme Regis just 3 miles to the west and the market town of Bridport 8 miles to the east, this property is perfectly located for coastal getaways with family.

A stable door opens into the porch and lounge beyond, a welcoming room with beamed Victorian fireplace, cosy sofas, digital TV and iPod dock. Rustle up delicious meals in the large kitchen/diner beyond, which is finished in a traditional style with cream units and a farmhouse table. Upstairs, an impressive master bedroom is a homely space to rest weary heads with pine floors, a king-size bed and sea glimpses. For those sunny afternoons, there’s no better place to enjoy an evening glass of wine than in the south-facing patio garden.

For a peaceful walk, set out on foot from the cottage and follow the quiet lane up the hill to the National Trust nature reserve, with excellent views across Lyme Bay. A short stroll in the opposite direction will bring you into the heart of Charmouth, home to a bakery, village stores and three popular pubs. Beyond the village, the Jurassic Coast is lined with picturesque bays, beaches and villages including Lyme Regis, Seatown (5.5 miles) and Seaton (11.5 miles). Enjoy long walks along the South West Coast Path before a restorative bite to eat at one of this area’s fantastic pubs and beach cafes.

Fantastic, cosy cottage even with Spring gales blowing in. One of the best equipped cottages we have ever stayed in, but my teenager would have preferred it to be at the bottom of the hill!

Lovely well equipped cosy cottage. It is well situated to explore the Jurassic coast and if the walking is too hard (cottage is 100 metres up a very steep hill!) then there is a bus stop 2 minutes away from the cottage that goes directly into Lyme Regis or in Bridport direction. The view is beautiful and the walk to the shop and coffee house short but the hill a bit of challenge! We thought at the time of booking that Charmouth would have more in the way of retail and eating. So we would recommend the cottage with that proviso.

This is a lovely cosy cottage with a comfortable sitting room, a very well equipped kitchen, lovely bedrooms and a really good shower. We went in hot weather and the house stayed cool, but it looks like it would be really cosy in the winter especially with a fire going! It is easily walkable to the beach. Do prepare yourself for the steepness of thRead moree road though! However it is straight and we had no access issues and could park directly outside the house. We would definitely come here again. Lovely comfortable cosy cottage, superb views from the front. It was nice to come home to every night after exploring the wonderful Dorset coast. We love Charmouth and walked for miles along the beach, and further to Lulworth Cove, Durdle Door and Portland Bill, all amazing views. The steep hills are painful on the knees though!
