Situated at the edge of the quiet rural village of Askerswell, this 4-star accommodation is a well-equipped and relaxing retreat from the daily grind.

Upstairs are two beautifully-presented bedrooms, with original floor boards and reduced height in the eaves. Across the lane in front of the barn is an enclosed lawn garden with summerhouse and garden furniture, which offers plenty of space to burn off steam, dine alfresco and relax with family in the sunshine. There is ample shared parking.

Surrounded by glorious Dorset countryside, this property is ideal for enjoying long walks through Askerswell Down before tucking into a hearty meal at the local inn, half a mile away. The lively market town of Bridport is just 4 miles away, home to a host of independent shops, cafes and restaurants. Head to the coast to visit the popular seaside towns of West Bay (5 miles), Seatown (8.5 miles), Lyme Regis (15 miles) and Weymouth (17 miles), relax on the sand, walk the coastal path or try your hand at coasteering, kayaking or abseiling.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

We really enjoyed our stay at Threshers cottage. Its a perfect base from which to explore the Dorset coast and countryside. The cottage was clean and well equipped and there is access to a garden and deckchairs across the road. The village of Askerswell is also very picturesque and close to an Iron Age hill fort walk. Lovely, comfortable property with everything we needed. Really enjoyed our stay. Garden is across the very quiet road and not visible from the property so need to accompany children when using this. That said, garden is lovely space and lots of outdoor games in the summerhouse to entertain.

We booked Threshers Cottage for a three night break over half term. It is very well located just off the A35, and therefore with very easy access to all the places we wanted to visit. Even though it is close to a main road, you would not have known. It is well equipped and comfortable. Well recommended

Quaint small cottage in a beautiful village, well located for exploring West Dorset. Kitchen well equipped and open plan living area ideal. Jaemie was very helpful and friendly, and the owner called to welcome us too. This was the fourth time we have stayed at Threshers. It's a cosy, well kept and very comfortable cottage in the beautiful village of Askerswell. The owner, Peter, makes a point of checking in with his guests to ensure all is in good order, as it inevitably is. You won't regret staying here.

Although it's just three hours from London and the South East, Dorset feels like a world away from the hubbub of the city. This gem of a county offers the very best of rural England: magnificent coastal scenery, vast sandy beaches, rolling hills, charming villages, country pubs, stately homes and medieval castles.

Take time to explore the dramatic and diverse coastline. Stretching 95 miles from East Devon to Poole, the Jurassic Coast has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and is the only natural phenomenon in England to achieve this status. Here, visitors can uncover Earth's fascinating history whilst enjoying unspoilt views over superb beaches, many of which welcome canine companions too. From the iconic rural rock arch at Durdle Door to the endless sandy expanses of Studland, Dorset has it all.

Why not head to Lyme Regis, classified as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty? Like much of West Dorset, it has an old-world ambience and offers excellent fossil hunting opportunities. Or head east to discover the beauty of Lulworth and the vibrant seaside resort of Swanage.

Steeped in history and with a certain quintessential charm, Dorset's glorious countryside is peppered with small towns and villages which are well worth a visit. Many are graced with fine buildings, immortalised in the books of Thomas Hardy, a Dorset-born novelist and poet. For more energetic visitors, footpaths and cycleways reveal the county's hidden secrets with the coast always close at hand for those who love the water.
