Take a party or even two families to this handsome stone cottage in Worth Matravers on Dorset’s Isle of Purbeck. Sleeping up to eight guests across four bedrooms, it has been beautifully renovated and carefully updated, and nestles in mature gardens. Soak up the sunshine at home or head 3.5 miles into Swanage to spend time on the sandy beach. Head off on walks along the Jurassic coastline and return to eat in the local pub, with its sea views.

Enter this chocolate-box, Grade II-listed cottage to find a wealth of original features. Relax in the beamed lounge together, basking in the glow of the wood burner as you watch TV. Head into the farmhouse-style kitchen/diner, with its oven, hob, microwave, fridge, and dishwasher, to prepare holiday feasts and dine at the long table. Find a freezer, second fridge, and washing machine in the utility room and two shower rooms, with WCs and hand basins, also on the ground floor. The master bedroom, with its king-size bed, is at this level too. This beautiful room has a vaulted ceiling and seating area with a wood burner and TV. Follow the cottage-style stairs up to the other three bedrooms, including a king-size, with seating area and TV, a double and a twin. Enjoy outdoor living in the spacious garden: light the BBQ and dine in the fresh air as the children play on the grass, up some steps. The driveway here can accommodate up to three cars.

Explore the scenic surroundings straight from the house. Walk 2 miles along footpaths, including the South West Coast Path, to the beauty spots of Winspit Quarry or Dancing Ledge. Drive 16 miles to swim at Lulworth Cove and to see famous Durdle Door. Head 17 miles to scenic Studland Bay for long sandy beaches and heathland walks.

Very interesting, cosy cottage with a lovely big garden, especially appreciated by the children in the family group. Plenty of walks to do from the cottage and nearby sheep field for kite flying! Sadly the house felt damp though the dehumidifier in downstairs bedroom was much appreciated. Great w/machine and tumble dryer.

Great location. Good sized property and perfect for a family gathering. Great garden play area. Situated in a lovely village with a duck pond and play area. Close to Swanage but nice to be away from the town and in the countryside.

A charming holiday home ideal for our group of 8. We found it warm and cosy. We enjoyed nights in and great walks right from the door. We loved the square and compass inn and the little unique fossil museum. We found everything we needed and loved the area. We would recommend.

Very comfortable cottage, beams, log burner etc Our party comprised of two couples so plenty of room. Zoe, the housekeeper, was very friendly and helpful. Perfectly situated for country and coastal walks, and very good ale at The Square and Compass just across the road.

Just had a week at Worth Cottage. Didnt realised both bathrooms were downstairs and the stairs are rather steep. We had an issue with the heating but marvellous Zoe the Housekeeper sorted it ASAP. The stairs are narrow and steep so might not be suitable for a multi generation group. Otherwise a lovely cottage in a super location. Third double bedroom rather small.

Although it's just three hours from London and the South East, Dorset feels like a world away from the hubbub of the city. This gem of a county offers the very best of rural England: magnificent coastal scenery, vast sandy beaches, rolling hills, charming villages, country pubs, stately homes and medieval castles.

Take time to explore the dramatic and diverse coastline. Stretching 95 miles from East Devon to Poole, the Jurassic Coast has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and is the only natural phenomenon in England to achieve this status. Here, visitors can uncover Earth's fascinating history whilst enjoying unspoilt views over superb beaches, many of which welcome canine companions too. From the iconic rural rock arch at Durdle Door to the endless sandy expanses of Studland, Dorset has it all.

Why not head to Lyme Regis, classified as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty? Like much of West Dorset, it has an old-world ambience and offers excellent fossil hunting opportunities. Or head east to discover the beauty of Lulworth and the vibrant seaside resort of Swanage.

Steeped in history and with a certain quintessential charm, Dorset's glorious countryside is peppered with small towns and villages which are well worth a visit. Many are graced with fine buildings, immortalised in the books of Thomas Hardy, a Dorset-born novelist and poet. For more energetic visitors, footpaths and cycleways reveal the county's hidden secrets with the coast always close at hand for those who love the water.
