Cycling – Bridport

Cycling is a very popular pastime for the occasional participant or the serious tour riders. There are many tracks and trails that will are waiting to be discovered around Dorset which lend themselves to the family fun ride or to the hard core enthusiast. Cycle Routes

Wessex Ridgeway: 11.5 mile section from Lower Kingcombe to Pilsdon Pen

Starting at the 437 acre Dorset Wildlife Nature Reserve with its wild flowers and butterflies. On the ridge you pass the Rampisham Masts that supply the BBC World Service, Hooke village, Buckham Down and Broadwindsor. Then a big climb up Lewesdon Hill, the highest point in Dorset at 915 feet. Before dropping to the hill fort at Pilsdon Pen.

NCN Route 2: 14.7 mile section Dottery and through the Bride Valley

Relatively flat as you pass through sandstone coloured villages and skirt the outer limits of Bridport. There are two small mini routes to Bridport 1 mile and West Bay 2.6 miles. then follows the flat valley floor of the Bride Valley until Little Bredy where there is a steep climb out.

This is also the route of the Tour de Manche.

Bridport’s Market Garden: 15 mile loop linking Bridport and Netherbury

Things to look out for on the way: Washingpool Farm Shop, Downhouse Farm, Chesil Smokery, Chapel Yard Pottery, Sladers Yard, Olya Studio, Nicola Leader and Palmers Brewery.

Eggardon Hill Fort: 14 mile loop around Powerstock

Things to look out for on the way: Kingcombe Centre, Mangerton Mill, Loscombe Nature Reserve, Powerstock Common, Eggardon Hill, and Spyway Inn.

Valley of the Stones: 16 mile loop through the Bride Valley

Things to look out for on the way Abbotsbury village and Abbotsbury Tourism, Bride Valley Farm Shop, Tamarisk Farm, Dansel Gallery, Abbotsbury Studio, Marie Laywine, D’Veitch Art Gallery, Hellstone Long Barrow, Grey Mare and her Colts Long Barrow, St Catherines Chapel and Hardy’s Monument
