Marine TheatreThe Marine Theatre

Known as ‘The Little Theatre By The Sea’, The Marine has a fascinating history as well as an exciting, year-round event calendar. The building dates back to 1806 and was originally a sea water baths, a popular cure at the time for a variety of ailments. The pump house is the only remaining part of the original baths, now a fabulous dressing room looking out over the coast. During World War II, the theatre was used by the Americans as a canteen and troops were entertained by James Cagney who brought the American Heavyweight Boxing Champion Joe Louis with him. The Lyme Arts Community Trust took over in 2003 and have continued to put on an eclectic mix of shows from music to comedy, Macbeth to The Jungle Book;  it is definitely all happening at this unique venue!
