Cycling – Lyme Regis

Cycling is a very popular pastime for the occasional participant or the serious tour riders. There are many tracks and trails that are waiting to be discovered around the Lyme Regis are of Dorset which lend themselves to the family fun ride or to the hard core enthusiast. Here are a few routes to enjoy while on holiday.

Wessex Ridgeway: 8.5 miles Pilsdon Pen to Champernhayes

Rolling countryside of the Marshwood Vale with the River Char flowing through, a great mix of farmland and woodland. The cycle route splits from the walking route at Fishpond Bottom and then continues onto Champernhayes.

NCN Route 2:13.6 miles through the Marshwood Vale

Slightly different route than the Wessex Ridgeway but still through the rolling farmland of the Marshwood Vale and its many Iron Age Hill Forts. There are three small additional routes that can be added to Lyme Regis 4.8 miles, Lambert’s Castle/Coney’s Hill Fort 4.5 miles and Charmouth 2.2 miles.

This is also on the route of the Tour de Manche.

Hillforts & The Vale: 12 mile Circular Route around the Marshwood Vale

Things to look out for on the way: Fivepenny Farm, Moores Biscuits, Becklands Farm, The Bottle Inn, Charmouth Heritage Centre, Medieval Shrine of St Wite, Pilsdon Pen, Lambert’s and Coney’s Castles.
