Scattered all along the Dorset coast and close to our self catering holiday cottages there are a vast array of child orientated activities for fun in both rain and shine.

These suggestions below are specifically recommended as they appeal to younger children and are tried and tested by our tireless team!

One of the best things about Abottsbury Swannery, children’s farm and sub-tropical gardens is that no matter what time of year there’s always something great going on. Abottsbury Tourism put on family-friendly events all year round from spooky Halloween in the floodlit gardens to giant Easter egg hunts. One of the most popular events of the calendar is cygnet hatching season. The children’s farm features a large array of farm animals including llamas! A great attraction is the goat racing that takes place twice a day. There’s also a playground and mini ride-on tractors!

Monkey World DorsetMonkey World, Near Wool

This is the largest monkey and ape rescue centre in all of Europe. Kids absolutely love it here. Monkey World is situated near the village of Wool, in the Purbeck area. It features every kind of monkey and ape you can think of from Chimpanzees to Orang-utans and Lemurs to Marmosets. This huge family friendly facility also includes a large adventure playground for the kids once they have had their fill of monkey madness. The centre has special events throughout the year. No family holiday in Dorset is complete without a visit to Monkey World!

Chococo SwanageChococo – The Purbeck Chocolate Co.

Based in the centre of Swanage, Chococo is an institution. It’s immensely popular chocolate fondues sold on site draw in the crowds all year round. In the holidays Chococo arrange one hour long chocolate making workshops aimed at kids of 7yrs+. In the workshops your kids will design their own chocolate shapes and lollies and just generally get very messy!! So if you fancy taking a break from the Blue Flag beaches of Swanage then head to Chococo for an unforgettable experience. Be aware that it is basically impossible to not purchase vast amounts of chocolate once you are inside!!

Tower Park PooleTower Park, Poole

Located on the outskirts of Poole, Dorset. Tower Park is an enormous complex featuring a water-slide park, large soft play area, 10 pin bowling, multi-screen cinema complex and amusements. Not to mention a large variety of restaurants and take-away outlets. On a rainy day it really is a one stop shop for a whole day of entertainment. Splashdown – Is a large water-slide complex with slides suitable for all ages. Lemur Landings – A large soft play area with cafe (and wifi). Empire Cinemas – A 16 screen cinema, don’t miss saver Tuesdays when the tickets are super cheap!

Putlake Children's Farm SwanagePutlake Adventure Farm, Swanage

Located in Langton Matravers on the outskirts of Swanage, Putlake is a children’s farm and so much more. Featuring horses, donkeys, alpacas, pigs, lambs, goats and all sorts of chickens and ducks. Feeding time offers the chance for the kids to bottle feed the lambs! It’s not just about the animals here though, there’s also a nine hole crazy golf course, play area and tractor rides. Once the kids have had their fill then you should have yours… Poppy’s tea room is next door and serves up the best cream teas in the area!
