This beautifully renovated thatched cottage, set in the chocolate box village of Burton Bradstock, is the perfect rural retreat for large groups looking for a slice of peace and tranquillity.

Set in a row of pretty stone cottages, this former village butcher’s dates back over 300 years. The cottage has immense character, thanks to its abundance of original features, and has been lovingly furnished for maximum style and comfort. You’ll be perfectly placed to explore the nearby historic market town of Bridport, just 3 miles away, as well as the numerous quaint seaside resorts dotted along the coast. Hive Beach is just over 0.5 miles away and is a lovely spot for a family day out, with its beach cafe and fossil hunting opportunities (keeping kids entertained for hours!). Those wishing to venture further afield can explore one of the many trails and cycle routes along the stunning Jurassic Coast.

You will enter the property through a thatched porch, before stepping down into the hallway where you’ll find space to store your coats and boots. On your right is a large shower room with a WC. This is followed by a cosy snug area, with delightful exposed beams, armchairs and a gas flame-effect wood burner in the inglenook stone fireplace – this is the perfect, tucked away spot to snuggle up with a good book in the evening. From here, you will walk through into the lounge area with its gorgeous comfy sofas, window seat and stone fireplace (again, with a gas flame-effect wood burner). The TV is located here, so it’s a great space to all congregate and recharge after a long day of exploring. The dining room is also located on the ground floor and has a table large enough for the whole group to get together for breakfast and evening meals. From here French doors open out onto the garden. The beamed kitchen, with a fabulous feature stone wall and exposed beams, also has a breakfast table and plenty of room for entertaining. It has everything you need to rustle up a hearty meal for the whole party, including a range cooker, dishwasher, large butler sink and speaker system. French doors also open from here onto the garden. In the utility room, there’s a microwave, fridge/freezer and washing machine. On this floor there’s also a games room, with a darts board, snooker table and table tennis. The stairs lead to the first floor, where three of the bedrooms are located. To your left is the large family bathroom with a claw foot bath, separate shower and underfloor heating, as well as a stunning double bedroom with a feature stone wall and views of the garden. Along the landing is the twin bedroom (with beds that can make a 5’ double) and up a couple of steps is the other double bedroom with a very stylish en-suite shower room. Cottage-style steep stairs take you to the second floor, where the other twin room is located. Just watch out in this beamed room as there is reduced headroom in the eaves.

Outside is a large enclosed south-facing garden. There’s ample outdoor seating on the patio area so you can all enjoy al fresco dining or a spot of sunbathing on a warm summer’s day. Four steps from the patio lead to the lawned garden area, which is framed with an array of shrubs, flowers and a feature palm tree. Parking is available on the lane outside the property.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

Please note there is a refundable £500 security deposit for this property payable closer to the start of your holiday.

The cottage was fantastic... The only disappointment was being able to get in at 3pm and having the cleaners sit outside of the property from 9.30 to make sure we left at 10am... A) this was too early - 12 would have been more reasonable and B) we felt under pressure... The house was perfect and we loved it...

The Old Butchers is absolutely one of the loveliest properties weve ever stayed in. Its been beautifully decorated and furnished (was extremely clean and new!) and is equipped with everything you could possibly need (and more). The games room was a lovely surprise too. The village is a gem - everyone we met was so welcoming and helpful, and the beaRead morech (and restaurant/cafe) are glorious. We cant recommend it enough and plan to return next year! Hide

Location

Note: As the postcode is used to identify the general area of the property, it may not always reflect its precise location, therefore please only use this map as a guide.

Dorset, a location of enduring popularity is a small rural gem of a county encompassing all of the best parts of rural England: rolling green hills, woodland and hedgerows abundant with flora and fauna running down to the sea yet situated just 3 hours from London and the South East.

The whole coastline from Exmouth to Poole has been declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO. Known as the Jurassic Coast, it is the only natural phenomenon in England to achieve this status and offers unspoilt views with dramatic cliff-top walks alongside beautiful, safe, sandy beaches which often welcome your four-legged friends too. From the dramatic natural rock arch at Durdle Door to the endless sandy expanses of Studland; Dorset has it all.

This South West county is also a treasure trove of secrets waiting to be discovered. Having grown out of the landscape out of the centuries, many of Dorset’s small rural towns expose history at every turn to inform and delight guests, whilst for the more energetic, footpaths and cycle-ways open up to reveal Dorset’s hidden secrets and the coast is always close at hand for those who love the water.

Why not head to Lyme Regis – classified as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, much like most of West Dorset to uncover an old-world ambience and excellent fossil hunting or discover the drama of Lulworth with the iconic Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove.

Dorset’s towns and villages ooze quintessential charm and are graced by fine buildings which have often been immortalised in Thomas Hardy’s books, including Dorchester – his birthplace. Wherever you choose to stay, you are never far from the fascinating Jurassic Coast and World Heritage Coastal Path.
