Beaminster is a prosperous, small market town with over 200 listed buildings. It has an great mix of shops including arts, crafts, antiques, an old-fashioned victuallers, deli and French patisserie. It also has three pubs, restaurants and a hotel. There are some beautiful walks from the town, which lies at the head of the River Brit’s ‘Hidden Valley’, well known for its tranquillity, wildlife and old watermills. Being just a short drive from Bridport means the coast isn't too far away either.
The town is known for its historical heritage and is the home of some great artists. Visit the fascinating Beaminster museum which offers an insight into the town's rich history and gives visitors an idea of how the townspeople have lived over the years. The Jacobean Mapperton House and Gardens is a must-see, as not only does it have award-winning gardens and amazing scenery, it was also the filming location for the 2015 adaptation of Hardy's 'Far from the Madding Crowd'.
