The charming harbour of West Bay (recently made famous by the TV series Broadchurch) sits a mile and a half south of Bridport, between Eype and Burton Bradstock. With the stunning golden glow of the majestic sandstone cliffs and the shimmering radiance of Golden Cap, it is the Golden Gateway to the Jurassic Coast.
Enjoy a fabulous breakfast at The Watch House Café
Take in the stunning views along the coastline across the harbour towards Thorncombe Beacon, Charmouth and Lyme Regis. Looking the other way towards Burton Bradstock you have the imposing golden cliffs that are so well known along this coastline – a great spot to see the Jurassic Coast in all its glory.
This is a popular pastime for the whole family – inter family crab catching competitions are hard fought contests that anyone of any age can join in and enjoy!
Enjoy a Baboo Gelato ice cream
Well, technically not really an ice cream but a Gelato – Gelato is made using more milk than cream, and so is much lower in fat than traditional ice cream. There is also less air in gelato, which means it packs more flavour. My favourite flavour is the salted caramel!
The Customs House at West Bay, Dorset is an emporium offering unique gifts, collectibles, memorabilia, vintage ware, retro & stylish clothing, handmade items, designer furniture & home furnishings. Sladers Yard gallery presents a high quality, changing programme of selling exhibitions throughout the year. The gallery works directly with the artists so you can be sure the art is genuine and is supporting a living for some really talented artists of today!
Recent years have seen three series of this popular television program filmed in West Bay. Olivia Coleman (DS Ellie Miller) and David Tennant (DI Alec Hardy) were popular “residents” during the filming of these very popular series.
There are many kiosks and restaurants in West Bay where you can enjoy the local seafood – a great place to enjoy some lovely food is Rachels overlooking the harbour by the Harbour Masters office. Top Tip…… there is normally a wait for a table so best to book, or simply enjoy waiting for a table watching the boats in the harbour.
Hop on one of the charter boats at West Bay and see if you can catch your own supper – Mackerel Trips are very popular, lasting about an hour and you stand a good chance of catching some for the BBQ! Trips can be booked from the local Angling Centre.
Enjoy a fantastic exhilarating boat ride around the bay with Lyme Bay Rib Charter. It is a great way to see the coast from a different angle. You might even be lucky enough to see some dolphins!
A Circular walk from West Bay to Burton Bradstock, heading back along the coast. There are far-reaching views across the Devon coastline from the top of the high cliffs that played an important role in preparations for the D-Day Landings in the Second World War.
