There’s been a lot happening lately with our chosen charity, The South West Coast Path, and our guests have played their part. We think it’s time to remind you where your money goes if you choose to add a charity donation to your booking, so here’s an update on The South West Coast Path’s #40FOR40 campaign.
The South West Coast Path
The South West Coast Path is exposed to both the elements and the feet of millions of walkers, so it needs constant attention to keep it accessible and in world-class condition. This year alone has seen the Beast from the East, followed by the hottest summer on record. As a result, the association decided to celebrate its 40th anniversary by raising £40,000 in the ongoing quest to protect, maintain and improve the path, safeguarding access to the coastline now and for the future.
The charity raises funds through membership fees, donations, legacies and grants and #40FOR40 has been the first region-wide fundraising campaign of its kind. Julian Gray, Director of the South West Coast Path Association said, “This 40th celebration campaign has been a huge success for us, as it has shown how many people care about the Path and are willing to support it to ensure it is here for many years to come. I would like to say a personal thank you to everyone who helped us reach this target and hope others will be inspired to do the same in the future.”
The campaign attracted individuals and groups from all over the region who walked, ran or organised community fundraisers to help the charity reach its £40,000 target. In addition to this, donations were received from varied organisations and businesses, ensuring the campaign target was reached and exceeded for a final tally of £43,077.
Just because the campaign is over, doesn’t mean that your contributions stop. We are very grateful to those of our guests who choose to give a donation to protect what they come to enjoy and are pleased to offer continued support to our chosen charities.
