Chaldon Herring is a village and civil parish in the English county of Dorset, about 8 miles south-east of the county town of Dorchester. This tranquil area is home to a traditional thatched pub and is the location for the Weymouth Craft Beer Festival. With literary connections including some of the renowned Powys authors, the area was also used as a clifftop location in Far from the Madding Crowd.

The area is a popular walking spot and is famous for the Chaldon Herring and Scratchy Bottom walk. Not only a film location, it offers traditional Dorset scenery along the way, including farmland, valley and coast. Visit the church of St Nicholas in Chaldon Herring and climb up the gorse-filled hilltop to White Nothe. Hikers can carry on to the challenging climbs of Bat's Head and then Swyre Head, whose descent boasts a great view of Dorset's most famous landmark, Durdle Door.
