Beaches – Bridport

With mainly pebble and shingle beaches in the Bridport area, this particular part of Dorset exudes natural beauty with the cliffs of West Bay now forever immortalised by the hit TV show ‘Broadchurch’.


Also known as Eype Mouth, this is a shingle beach with medium size pebbles which allows dogs all year round. There are toilets available and a Hotel, Pub and tea room in nearby Lower Eype. Parking is in a private car park.

This thriving coastal fishing harbour has two beaches; West Beach and East Beach. Both are shingle and allow dogs from October to April. Facilities include kiosks, cafes, restaurants and public houses while R.N.L.I. Beach Lifeguards patrol during the summer months from 10am to 6pm. In addition to emergency rescues, the R.N.L.I. also provide advice, first aid and contact with the Coastguard. Remember it is important to always swim between the red and yellow flags!

Burton Bradstock

Also known as Hive Beach, this is a coarse sandy beach with toilet facilities and a great dog-friendly cafe. Dogs are allowed on the beach from November to May. Parking is in the National Trust Car Park for which there is a charge from April to October (Free to National Trust Members)
Dogs Not Permitted 1st May to 30th September.
Unrestricted at all other times.

West Bexington BridportCogden Beach, Burton Bradstock

Accessed from the National Trust Car Park just off the B3157 between Burton Bradstock and Swyre, this lovely secret beach is made up of sand and shingle. It allows dogs all year and is very popular with walkers and fishermen.

Popular with fishermen, this shingle beach shelves steeply and is a great place to catch mackerel in the summer. Dogs are allowed in restricted areas and there is a cafe, toilets and pay and display parking.

This steeply shelving pebble/shingle beach allows dogs all year and is a great place for walking and fishing with fantastic views of Lyme Bay. Car park and toilets available.
